Over the past 13 years, 1900+ tourism businesses have voluntarily certified their environmental practices and been recognized as Certified Virginia Green Travel Partners. Click here for more information on the Certification program - the process, benefits, fees, etc.
There are 2 levels of participation:
1. Commitment Level Certification only requires that basic commitments to sustainable practices are in place, such as recycling and energy & water conservation. This cursory level of recognition is meant for operators that have just started their environmental program efforts.
Operators are typically only supposed to stay at the commitment level for one 2-year cycle. HOWEVER, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, partners are allowed to re-certify at the commitment level for another 2-year cycle.
2. Full Virginia Green Travel Certification requires that a number of several sustainable practices are fully implemented in areas such as recycling & waste reduction, energy & water conservation, environmental leadership and green meetings and events.
